Last Christmas, Mike and I spent two weeks traveling the Gulf Coast in the new 2019 Acura RDX, midsize luxury crossover SUV. We kicked off our road trip driving from College Station, Texas all the way to our final destination in Key West to ring in 2019!
RDX at Quick Glance:
- 10 Speed Automatic Transmission
- 2.0L VTEC TURBO
- 28 MPG on the Highway | 22 MPG in the City
- 272 Horse Power
- True Touchpad Interface
- Apple CarPlay

After driving over 3,000 miles in the 2019 Acura RDX, I think I’m well equipped to give the SUV a “Drive in Five” review!
“Drive in Five” is a snapshot review of the latest cars on the market in five points or less. I’m not a car expert, but a southern woman giving her unbiased opinion on the latest rides rolling off car lots.
This is a special edition of the Drive in Five because I’m also including a pictorial of each stop we made along our Gulf Coast Road Trip adventure while outlining my overall review of the 2019 Acura RDX in five points.

Our first stop brought us to Oak Alley Plantation and New Orleans. The first leg of the trip was short and all about getting to know the SUV features.
1. Favorite Features
My first favorite feature of the Acura RDX was the heads-up-display, this made the drive more comfortable knowing that I could keep my eyes focused on the road.
The rear cargo underfloor space was perfect for hiding all of our gifts that we purchased on the trip and made me feel more comfortable parking the SUV in each city we visited. Our luggage also fit perfectly into the back of the SUV, allowing room in the second row of seats for our cooler and road trip snack bag.
When we made our final stretch of the trip, onto highway 1, to Key West, we opened the Panoramic Moonroof and soaked up the sun. I never got tired of opening the moonroof and catching the sky view of our road trip!

2. Comfort Level
The Acura RDX seats were the number one thing I continue to talk about after our Gulf Coast road trip. They were so incredible comfortable and again so perfect for a long road trip. The overall size of the RDX would seat four adults and four full size suitcases perfectly, which also makes this SUV the perfect selection for a weekend getaway with friends.

3. How Does it Drive?
The drive was easy. The Acura RDX really drove smoothly and made each mile pass by with ease. Mike and I took turns driving and we both were able to adjust the seat and steering wheel to match our comfort needs for the long drive ahead.
The midsize SUV was easy to park because of it’s compact size and I loved the sensors in the side mirrors that alerted me to passing by cars or cars that were approaching quickly.
4. Overall Looks?
I have always favored the way the Acura looks and the 2019 RDX is still at the top of my list on the overall looks department, inside and out. All of the color options are attractive and I would definitely purchase the performance pearl red featured in all the photos.
The RDX interior was very visually appealing as well, with Natural Olive Ash Burl Wood finishes and parchment (light tan) full-grain Milano leather seats, includes heated and ventilating on the front and second rows.

5. Cost?
The sticker price of the 2019 Acura RDX was around $47,000. Keep in mind that this SUV had all of the bells and whistles and was fully loaded with a premium package, including 4WD.
