Grub Burger Bar

I learned so much about the locally owned Grub Burger Bar on one of my latest date nights with Mike. Did you know that Grub stands for “Good People + Real Food + Unique Vibes + Big Flavors?” Known for their delicious burgers, shakes (spiked shakes too), and cocktails; Mike and I enjoyed a private tasting of some of their favorite dishes!

We dined in the original Grub Burger Bar location in College Station, Texas. In a short time, Grub Burger Bar has quickly expanded across Texas and into California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Pennsylvania with a total of 26 locations, including the new location in Katy, Texas, opening soon!

Grub Burger Bar spoiled us during our tasting! I’ve broken down the whole evening by category:

  • Starters
  • Cocktails
  • Main Dishes
  • Shakes
  • Bonus Grub Details

For Starters | Cheese Fries + Queso

One of favorite food groups…”Queso” was the first starter. It was hard to stop at just one bite because the creamy melted cheese was mixed with chorizo and ground beef. Top this off with homemade tortilla chips, made in house, and fresh guacamole – this equals what I imagine heaven might taste like.

As if we thought the queso was just enough… out came Cheese Fries. Enjoy Grub’s classic cheese fries as a shareable portion of skinny fries, melted Monterrey Jack and cheddar cheese, along with bits of bacon, topped with jalapeños and a side of jalapeño ranch for your dipping needs.

Cocktail Hour | Blueberry Mojito + Margarita

Cool off this summer with one of Grub’s specialty hand craft cocktails – the Five Dollar Margarita and Blueberry Coconut Mojito.

The Five Dollar Margarita includes Sauza Tequila, Patrón Citronge Orange and fresh lime juice and poured into a glass that will make you take a double take as the glass looks like it’s also melting under the sun. If you want a taste of summer, try the Blueberry Coconut Mojito. This light and refreshing drink is made with Malibu Rum, fresh blueberries and topped off with mint and fresh lime juice.

The Main Dish | Beef, Chicken, Turkey…OH MY!

Jive Turkey named after the 1983 comedy “Trading Places,” is a ground pesto seasoned turkey burger, bacon, Swiss, sprouts, avocado and chipotle aioli on a made from scratch wheat bun.

The California Chicken Bowl was probably one our favorite “non burger” dishes. Sliced grilled chicken breast, bacon, black bean with a charred corn medley, lettuce, campari tomatoes, avocado, queso fresco, sprouts and ancho lime vinaigrette.

The Lockhart Legend was named after the city of Lockhart, Texas, which is the BBQ capital of Texas! The Lockhart Legend is topped with applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, Dr Pepper BBQ sauce, two onion rings and sliced dill pickles.

Bacon Love #9 it only took nine times to get the Bacon Love secret sauce right, which is why it’s named “Secret Sauce #9. This burger is topped with applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato and Secret Sauce #9!

The You’re My Boy Blue burger was named after the 2003 comedy “Old School.” Go figure the Old School was my favorite burger of the tasting… I could watch this movie on repeat and the same goes for this delicious burger. Crumbled blue cheese, blue cheese spread, cracked peppercorn seasoning, balsamic caramelized onions, tomato and arugula were perfection and by far my favorite burger.

California Chicken Sandwich with grilled chicken breast, bacon, Swiss, sprouts, avocado and chipotle aioli on a made from scratch wheat bun is another “non burger” option and very delicious!

Shake What Your Momma Gave Ya!

And we weren’t leaving without trying Grub Burger Bar’s signature shakes! We enjoyed the ET filled with Reese’s Pieces, peanut butter, Ghirardelli chocolate sauce and peanut butter cookie. And the Snickers shake, which tasted exactly like a Snickers! If you’re feeling adventurous ask your server about their “spiked” milkshake options!
