Improving Your Memory

Have you ever walked into a room and forgot why you went in there, to begin with? This happens to me more often than I’d like to admit. Losing your memory can be alarming. And as you get older, your mind starts to fade in the same way that your muscles aren’t as strong or efficient. Aging is never easy, but it’s not a nice feeling, especially if you don’t consider yourself to be old or a senior.

While there’s probably nothing to worry about, there are many healthy options to take back control and retrain your brain. Aside from enhancing your memory, exercising your mind should also prevent future age-related illnesses. If you don’t know where to start, check out the advice below. Here are four memory loss tips that you hopefully won’t forget!

Workout More

Exercising is a tip that you’ll see for pretty much any health-related problem. Whether it’s losing weight or relieving stress, working out will be at the top of the list. Staying active promotes blood flow, and therefore extra oxygen, to all parts of the body. As a result, your brain will have the O2 it requires to maintain its edge, preventing memory loss.

How much should you work out? According to the Department of Health, exercise can range anywhere between two-and-a-half to five hours.

Cut Out The Junk Food

As the saying goes, you are what you eat. If you consume tons of fatty foods that are packed with carbs and fats and have very few fatty acids or proteins, then you’re going to suffer mentally. The Kristen Blake Wellness blog calls it “brain fog”, and that’s what it feels like when you can’t seem to eliminate the lack of energy and inability to think clearly. Thankfully, consuming more foods that are linked to brain health is an excellent way to clear the haze. Harvard Health Publishing recommends white fish, leafy greens, and berries.

Stay Social

Socializing amid a global health pandemic isn’t a walk in the park. Ah, walks in the park – they were the days! Sure, leaving the house is something you no longer take for granted as it sucks to be on glorified house arrest. However, that doesn’t mean you should succumb to the blues and become more introverted. If anything, you must try and video call friends and loved ones to socialize.

That way, the lockdown will feel less tedious, and your brain won’t atrophy as much. Warding off loneliness is essential as it’s synonymous with mental health ailments.

Forget Your Ego

One thing that everyone could possibly do without is forgetting their ego. It might only be small, yet it manifests itself in ways that impact your lifestyle. Have you ever not written something down because you think you’ll remember it, only to find out later that maybe you really should have written it down on paper? Whoops! Getting older can encourage you to be obstinate since admitting that you require help is an admission that you’re giving up your independence. It isn’t. It’s just a simple way to lend your brain a hand. Stop overthinking things… and write it down on paper!
